Cost types
The first diagram illustrates the cost development over 8 years by type of cost. This includes the acquisition costs, operating costs and maintenance costs. We assume that 9,450 kWh are actually used per year. This corresponds to a consumption of 7 liters of diesel per hour, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and 25 weeks a year with an efficiency of 0.9, i.e. 9 kWh per liter of diesel, of which 15% is effectively used.

Cost trend
The second diagram shows the annual cost development over 8 years. With our assumed parameters, the break-even point is after 3.31 years. Over a period of 8 years, you will save just under €57,000 with the Butler S. In addition, you reduce your CO2 consumption by 14.5 tons and your employees can enjoy clean air and a pleasant background noise level.

The costs at a glance: Diesel generator vs. emost Butler
When deciding on a reliable energy supply on an industrial scale, it is not only performance and efficiency that play a role, but also the total costs over the service life. Here we compare the costs of a conventional diesel generator with our innovative emost Butler.
Parameters and assumptions made in the scenario
- The price per kWh is 25 cents.
- The diesel price per liter is € 1.90
- The efficiency of a diesel generator is 0.9, i.e. the generator produces 9 kWh from one liter of diesel.
- 15% of the energy generated by the diesel generator is used. Why so little?
- The consumption of the diesel generator is 7 liters per hour at 50% load, which we assume to be the average.
- The generator is operated 8 hours a day.
- We assume that the generator will be used for 25 weeks a year.
- The maintenance costs of the diesel generator include oil consumption, spare parts stocks (wearing parts such as oil filters) and repairs. We assume this to be 5% of the purchase price per year.
- We assume a useful life of 8 years.
Why is the utilized energy of the diesel generator only 15%?
Imagine operating a construction site with a crane that operates for a short period every 10 minutes. However, the diesel generator that supplies the energy must run continuously in order to be ready for each of these short phases. Even though the crane only sporadically requires energy, the diesel generator continuously generates electricity. This discrepancy between the energy actually used and the energy permanently generated means that only around 15% of the energy generated is actually used. This loss of efficiency is amplified because the connected end devices never fully absorb all the energy generated by the diesel generator, but often only require a fraction. This illustrates why the emost Butler, which supplies energy efficiently and on demand, is a more cost-effective solution.
